FAQs

How do I determine which clip will fit my main drain cover?

For the perfect clip match for your pool drain, simply head to our product guide page HERE and follow the straightforward instructions provided.

How do I measure my drain cover?

You can use your pool basket as a measuring device.  Put two strips of electricians tape on the “scoop” edge of your pool basket, separated by 8-3/4” inches as pictured below.  From the side of the pool, place the basket “scoop” edge over your pool drain to measure the distance between the holes on the pool drain cover.

How long can I expect the clip to last?

Our Main Drain Clip On, made from durable UV-resistant plastic, is designed to provide reliable performance for 2-3 years under typical usage conditions. Regular maintenance and care can further extend its lifespan, ensuring continued effectiveness in preventing pool cleaner jams.

Don’t remove clips once they are installed. Removing and reinstalling the clips will introduce micro-cracking and shorten the clip’s useful life.

What happens if the clip comes out of the Installation Tool before it snaps onto the main drain cover?

The clip effortlessly floats and can be easily reapplied as needed.

Why does my pool cleaner get stuck on the pool drain?

Here are some factors that can lead to pool cleaners getting stuck on the main drain:

1. Pool Bottom Shape: Even slight variations in the angle of the pool bottom near the drain can cause pool cleaners to get stuck, especially after pool re-plastering. Each pool's unique bottom shape may affect how cleaners interact with the drain cover.

2. Suction Balance: When water flows simultaneously through the pool drain and the cleaner, suction forces can trap the cleaner over the drain. Adjusting water flow to favor the cleaner reduces suction force, allowing it to break free. The Main Drain Clip acts as a barrier between the drain cover and the cleaner, preventing it from getting stuck.

3. Wear and Tear: Over time, wear and tear on pool cleaners can lead to them getting stuck on the drain. Regular maintenance is essential to prevent this issue.

These factors often work together, causing pool cleaners to become stuck. The Main Drain Clip-On's simple design effectively prevents this problem by creating a barrier between the cleaner and the drain cover.

How many clips per drain do I need for my pool?

In most instances, one clip per drain cover suffices, but exceptions exist. Due to the diverse array of pool cleaners, drain covers, and pool bottom shapes, the need for clips can vary. While one clip may suffice in some scenarios, others may require two clips for optimal performance. Remarkably, a pool cleaner may experience sticking in one pool but not in another with an identical setup. Visit our PRODUCT GUIDE to find the right solution for your pool drain.

Similarly, certain applications necessitate the use of two clips. The clips are 3/4” wide and the water intake on the bottom of your pool cleaner is often times wider. For this reason, two clips installed in a + pattern are needed for certain pool setups. Crafted from UV-resistant plastic, these clips boast a lifespan of approximately 3 years. Notably, they have no shelf life, allowing for long-term storage should you desire to keep spare clips on hand.

Given the unique nature of each customer's pool application, including the number and style of drain covers, customization may be required.
